Fizz's Story ( Part 7 ~ 8 and 9 )

                                   Fizz Story Part 7

After a not so good night's sleep I woke up early with the knowledge that we had a way's to travel to see the specialist and he would tell us the big YES or NO ?? Apparently he was one of the Top people in Britain and he would be able to tell us basically, Just by Looking at her as to whether he could do something or not !! So apart from knowing he had X~ray Vision we went there with the hopes that My Fizzles would be Ok in the end !

I was worried that Fizz would be uncomfortable for the long car journey, plus the fact that she hadn't been able to have Breakfast and Fizzles did love her Breakfast !!  So that would have already upset her, but as she would be having an X~ray ( So much for the X~ray Vision !! ) Hope he has a Cape, cos otherwise I'm gonna be really disappointed ?? I need not have worried about Fizz being in pain or Starving and being uncomfortable, as I opened the Front Door of the car, She leapt in like her Butt was on fire !!

Personally for Fizz if she was going anywhere with me, no~matter where she would go or what we were doing she would always have the same look on her face !!   It was this incredible Look that could defeat anything and I knew right then that she would be fine ! It didn't stop me worrying all the same !!

The Look that would BEAT ANYTHING !!

Now I had done a lovely space on the back seat of the car with a big blanket so that Fizz would be comfortable on the long journey to see the specialist.
Well a Digger could not have moved that ungrateful Moo Bag !!

She was going to sit and slobber over her Mummy and it didn't matter how uncomfortable I was Fizz would not move for anything, she was with her Mummy and we were going out.She was going to be in  the front seat where she could have constant cuddles, and watch everything flying pass the window !!
So with Fizz in front of me, off we went to see the specialist and it was going to be a very long day !! Even though we were still travelling when lunch time came. I wouldn't let Dai stop for Lunch as I didn't think it was going to fair for Fizzly, to sit by and watch us eating when she couldn't  !! Much to Dai's disgust, but I promised that as soon as we had gone to the specialist's and we left Fizz with them to have her X~ray then we'd go and find a Pizza Hut !!

Dai did cotton onto my plan cos Fizz certainly did love a Stuffed Crust Meat Pizza.
           ( But honestly that didn't cross my mind ??? I promise ... Maybe ?? )

We manage to find the specialist quite easily which is always a bonus !! When we get there we have to use one of those stupid intercom things and are asked for our details, I couldn't believe the security maybe they put Gold Bar's in the Dog's legs !! We are then buzzed in and the first question is does Fizz Need a MUZZLE !!!   I responded that she hadn't eaten that many pets yet,  so nope she would be able to control herself for a lil bit ????

I was then asked did she attack other Dog's or would she be better off in a room of her own ?? I don't know what sort of Dog's they usually met ....... but it was obvious to me that most of them would need to meet Cesar Millan !!!  So after the security checks and behaviour queries we are sent into the waiting room !! We walk in and well Fizz Hopped ?? In the waiting room there are 3 other Dogs and one of them is this

Seriously huge Rottweiler Boy ....... Fizz looks up at me ....... then back at him ........ then Back at Me ??

The look on her face was hilarious and obvious, It was OMG he's a Big One !!!
If she had been able to go in the ladies room and powdered her nose and re~set her Lip Stick then she would have ?? Our Fizz was In LOVE !! She started wiggling her lil tail and walked over to him and started giving him Kisses, I don't know who was shocked more the Owner,  the Nurse or the Huge Rottweiler, but it was seriously the Cutest thing I have ever seen !!!

She then sat next to him and sat there giving him Doe Eye's and wiggling her lil tail every so often !! My Fizzles loved everything , but she REALLY liked this Huge Rottweiler ?? Her face was totally Crest Fallen when they got up to leave and he left without giving her his Phone Number. ( Just Like a Man !! )
We then just sit around and wait and as usual Fizz made herself completely comfortable, by lying upside down on her back in the middle of the floor with her legs sticking up in the air !!!

Watching everyone as they passed by with her usual Rottweiler Stare, trying to get passers by to give her Cuddles. As she loved everybody and everything she never got her head around the fact that she was a 10 stone black and tan Muscle Machine, and as strange as it was to her ~ NOT everyone wanted to lie on the floor and give this Rottweiler Cuddles ??  But the thought that someone would be scared of her was as Alien to her as her Actually Being Scared of Anything.

Fizz's Bravery still to this Day Amazes me and it's something I miss the Most, I feel totally at Awe at the fact that this amazing Animal adored me as Much as I adored her, I am immensely proud of the fact that I may have had a small part in what an Incredible Dog that she was, and I feel Honoured that she was Part of My Life.

Her Loss is felt by me as Keenly now as it was when she first passed. I just hope that I can share her story to all of you so that in some small part you can see how truly amazing this Black and Tan Muscle Hound was, and I only hope I can do her the Justice that I feel and Know she deserved. She was a ONE OFF and everyone who knew her would agree and I just want you to have a small piece of her because she really was an amazing spirit, and a total ambassador for the whole Rottweiler Breed.

Fizzly and her Wandering Eye !!!

                         _______________________________

                                Fizz's Story Part 8.

So there we were waiting for the specialist, and Fizzly was trying to compose herself after meeting her "Boyfriend " who had left her heartbroken !! Well this Husky walks in and promptly tried to take a hunk out of her !!! Everyone assumes that Rottweilers are these big dangerous dogs ?? well Fizz may have been an exception to the rules ?? But this 10 stone Rottweiler would never start anything but beware if you upset her cos it was something that was not pleasant to see !!

This is the time when you either have a large breed under control or not.......... I knew before I got a Rottweiler, that I would need from a very young age have total control of that dog. Especially as I had Ben and Emma as my children would always be my highest priority, and anyone who knows them will know that Ben has always been huge, and his Sister Emma has always been tiny !!

But Fizz listened to Emma instantly all though her life, while Ben never had the same control over Fizz ?? This proves that its the way of being and not the size of the person that a dog decides to listen too !! Well I'm not exactly tall being 5 foot 2 inches ........ But this dog would work to sign language, and if I looked at her she would instantly stop, and instantly lie down and not move !!

So I made sure I had control of any situation that arose with my Fizzly.

As I have said in various story parts on both my blogs and facebook page, I learn't how to be around Dogs from my Dad, and he had the same instant control over any dog we ever had as I was growing up. When you have 20 dogs inside a home you need to have someone who they listen too !! So its not aggression that controls dogs its the way of being and MEANING what you say !!

I know that Fizz was an incredible dog as did anyone who met her, But in the end she was still a ROTTWEILER with Rottweiler size and Rottweiler attitude !!! This mean't that when a Husky walks into a room and for no reason decides to try and take a hunk out of her ??? She is going to react ...... this is where experience comes into play, as if you know your dog and you can read your dog, then in the end you can CONTROL your dog !!

So all I did was poked her hard, and told her to shut up !!! Tickling a Rottweiler is not going to stop a Rottweiler, so I poked her and she stopped instantly.        But not before she has given her Chest Out Don't Even Try It Look !!!   Which the husky understood immediately and moved itself  backwards towards its owner !!  But this idiot dog then tries to start on this lil Black Labrador.

Fizz then turns protector and stands between the Labrador and the Husky ! The woman with the Husky just said Oh, She always does that I don't know why she does it !! Well I could have told her that her dog needed a kick up its butt, but I didn't ??  But it never ceases to amaze me how people will have these big breeds and then have absolutely no CONTROL over them at all.

Its the saying that there are no BAD DOGS just BAD OWNERS !! For that Husky the saying was very apt.

Luckily for the Labrador the Husky gets taken off somewhere else, and we then get called into to see the specialist. So up we get, and the feeling of will he won't he be able to help run's through my mind !! The Specialist then looks at this huge Rottweiler hopping towards him, looks at me and then looks back at Fizz !! The words that come out of his mouth were  " Is she Friendly ?? " By the time he had the  " Is She " out Fizz was on his lap giving him kisses !!!

He looks up at us and starts laughing and says " I Guess She Is !! "

We just said " Yes she's very Friendly ! "

He said  " Well lets see what's the matter with this girl then ? "

He tells us he needs to see her walk, so we all go outside and he gets me to walk up and down the car park and he's kneeling on the floor watching her legs move. He then says ok lets go back inside and I'll examine her properly, so we followed him back inside. We then get told that he thought her Cruciate Ligament had snapped and apparently Rottweilers and very prone to it as they are so heavy !

He then examined her leg and as usual she showed no sign of pain, He then said that one of the main signs is loss of Muscle in the bad leg and tip toeing which mean't that the dog doesn't use the full foot when they walk they use the tip of the foot instead. Which she had be doing for a couple of weeks, I then asked about the fact that the hopping had started and then stopped for a while then it had come back again just worse than ever.

We get told that when the Ligaments are weakening then the leg hurts the animal, so the Hopping starts. Then when the Cruciate Ligament Snaps completely the Pain then leaves the dog so they stop hopping or tip toeing as the pressure of the weakened Ligament then goes. But then the Leg and Muscle lose structure so then the Limping comes back and then the pain is even more severe. This will then mean that the muscle wither's away and the pain gets worse as the joint in the knee actually starts rubbing the bone against bone.

This is the stage he thought our Fizzly was in, but he must admit that normally dog's showed more guarding or signs of pain when the joint is touched or moved !! I pointed out that Fizz was not a normal dog and if there was ever a dog, that could have its head removed and show nothing it would be this one !! He laughed and said Maybe but he wanted to X~ray her and we would make sure that it was the Cruciate Ligament and nothing else.

He then asked could I stay while Fizz had the Blood Work done and to put a line in so they could sedate her for the X~ray, and to be able to Manipulate the joint more harshly so she did not suffer too much. I said that Fizz would allow them to take Blood from and put a line in without me. They just said that all the other Rottweilers have always been aggressive so its just the way they did things, if I didn't mind helping them. I of course said I would.

So we were taken into an examining room with a nurse and I sit on the floor with my Fizzly, who of course decided to roll onto her back again !! The nurse said that this was a first for the surgery as they had never taken blood from a Rottweiler while she was upside down !!! Fizz of course didn't even blink an eye when the blood was taken, and she was then given the injection to sedate her.

I then pointed out that she was very heavy and shouldn't we put her to the correct place before she completely passed out ?       We then put her on the Table where the tests would be done and Dai and I left to get some very late lunch !!

I must admit that I wasn't in the mood for food but it was a good way to waste time and Fizzly did love a Stuffed Crust Pizza.    So off we went and collected lunch and then went straight back to the clinic, because I just wanted to know what was wrong with Fizz, and more importantly could he help her ??

We get back to the Clinic and we get inside and are greeted by Fizzly sitting in their office sharing the Nurses Lunch !! Sooooo much for all the savage Rottweilers they had ever seen !!! We walk in and Fizzles see's us and leave's the food for her mummy ( such a devoted baby !! )

The specialist tells us to bring the savage Rottie with us and he will try to sort something out for her !!

Back to the worried feeling and I sit in his office with Fizz lying next to me, he turns to us and says that Fizz have definitely snapped her tendons and her bones where rubbing against each other so she must have been in some pain. He says that he has more Rottweilers needing this surgery than any other breed. So the first thing he asked was did we mind that he used her Blood work for testing to find out answers and maybe get some idea as to why it happens.

Also If we wanted the surgery then a Bone Scrapping so that it could be frozen and used for trying to find a Scientific factor in helping or testing to find a cure for this problem. As it causes so many dogs to suffer a lot of pain and in the end some of them have to be put to sleep because of it. We of course said that whatever samples or blood work, that would be needed then please take them. As I would hate for this to continue happening and for other families to have to go through this, as well and other dogs to suffer like Fizz.

Now down to what could be done for my Fat Lump, he first wants us to confirm that Fizz is insured as whatever operation or treatment we chose would not be cheap ? We said that yes she was insured
Getting your dog INSURED is one of the most important things I tell anyone I talk to when they are having one of my puppies or buying puppy. Get them insured its the only way, we would have been able to do anything with Fizz, as over the years I'm sure she would have cost us £25,000~00 to have all her issues dealt with ?? Which without the Insurance we would not have been able to keep up with her enormous Vet Bills. )

We had Fizz insured so we were in a lot better ability to get her treated by the best and have the best operation available at that time. He then went into the 3 Options that could apply to Fizz,

1 ) Do nothing and she would be crippled within a year ?

2 ) This was the normal way that people had done in previous years, which was to actually put cables inside the leg and basically, act like the snapped Cruciate Ligaments ~ But with her size he felt that the risk of them re~snapping and causing more damage would be high ?? Also it caused Arthritis as the Bone Joints would still continue to rub against each other and then in turn she would be in a lot of pain quite quickly !!

3 )  The final option was the most expensive of course !! but it was also the most major Surgery ?? It was also the most brutal and he felt the best option for our Fizz. This was when he brought out his white board and started drawing pictures. Basically it was the total removal of the Ball Head off the Joint of her knee would be cut off completely. Then he would put two Titanium Plates on either side of  the bone and then screws would be screwed into the Bones to hold everything in place !!

The Specialist then said that he felt because of her weight and age being 15 months old, this way would be the safest and last for her entire life. Because the Top of the Ball would be cut off this would then mean that she would not have the pain of the bones rubbing together and causing severe pain and end up crippling her.
He also said that even though there had not been many of these surgeries done, they did not know about the possibilities of her getting Arthritis, but he felt that the chances were much less with this surgery than any other ?? But as with all things we don't know ~ until we know ???

For me the choice was obvious and even though he said that the after care would be much harder work in looking after Fizz. I knew that I wanted my baby to have the best chance in a healthy and long life, especially at 15 months old when she could be crippled by 2.

So it was decided and the date was the Next Monday, so I had 4 days to get totally worked up. But also 4 days to spend with my Fizzles, before she would have such a serious and major operation. Where she would  need me to be there for her, so she could heal up and be the bouncy girl, and pain free girl that she deserved to be ........... because I knew she was special, but the Specialist would be totally shocked when he found out  JUST How Special she would be ???

                                 ________________________________________________

                                        Fizz's Story Part 9.

So once again it was the usual waiting around for the next major event ! and this time I had an entire weekend to get really worked up. Though if I'm honest the fact that the specialist was so sure, that my Fizz would be all right, well even better than all right. I was not worried about the operation as such,  but the thought of the pain,  that my Fat Lump would be dealing with did worry me.

But then I don't know anyone who care's about their pet, that would ever want them to be in any sort of pain ? Especially if like Fizz they had already been through, enough pain and thrill's to last, any pet or their owner for life !! I think Fizz either enjoyed the danger of jumping from one Crisis to the next ....... or maybe she just had a Vet Fetish ?!? with Fizz I think it was a case of either, neither or most probably BOTH !!

                                        My Gorgeous Girl !!

So all too quickly it was Monday Morning, and we were getting in the car to go to have her operation. I was feeling sick, and Fizzly was just happy to be going somewhere with mummy.
( Must be nice to have such simple pleasure's )

I wrote that Bracketed bit there, and I just thought how happy I used to be just sitting in the front seat with Fizz.
Being totally squished by a 10 Stone Rottweiler who would refuse, to sit anywhere more comfortable. Fizz would never sit in the back seat or Boot, She always sat there in front of me, squished between me in the front seat by my legs, and the Dash Board of the car !!!

So maybe the simplest pleasure's really are the best one's.

I would do anything for just one more journey with my Fatty, even with the Cramped legs, Hair Covered and Dribbled on Jeans, and just that smiley face, paying no attention to anything else.......... other than her Mummies Eye's.        I would do anything for just one more .................

I hope these page's are helping some of you who are reading them, because this is not getting any easier to write about or remember ?? Ok getting back to the Story ......

As I stated above my Rottweiler would only sit in the front hole by my leg's and yep she would cover me in Dribble's and Hair's, but she was so totally happy, I could never have it any other way. The only problem with the Front Seat Passenger apart from the Dribble's ...... was for Fizzly as she was right there, in the front she used to get blinded by the Sun.

So when we ever went anywhere and it was sunny Fizz would actually wear an old pair of my Sun Glasses !!! She would sit in the front space wearing the sun glasses, like it was the most normal thing in the world ! In Fizzly's world maybe, well we were on the Motorway and it was Sunny so Fizz Hog's was wearing her Shades. One thing that made us smile that day was when we passed this Huge Lorry, and when we were driving along side the Lorry.

The Driver then looks down at our car then Looks away and then he  LOOK'S AGAIN !!
We could see from his expression that he almost didn't believe, what he thought he had seen !! Once he realises that he hadn't been imagining it, and the Rottweiler in the front of the car IS wearing Sun Glasses.
All we see is him shaking his head and Chuckling, and then as we pass the lorry  fully. He is shaking so much with laughter, that he almost looks like he's about to wet himself  Laughing !!

All too quickly we were at the Specialist, and this time we didn't get the do we need to Sellotape your Dog's Jaw, to stop them eating another Patient ?   In Fact the nurses and receptionist came out on mass, to give Fizzle's Cuddles and Kisses, much to the shock of the other Pet's, and Owners waiting to be seen ! Especially as half or them had been  " Sellotaped and so had some of the Owner's "   well maybe not the Owners ?   But Fizz always had this way about her, that just made her easy to fall in Love with.

They trusted Fizz so much they didn't even ask us to stay, so she could have her Blood work and Line in for the operation. This just goes to show how even a Rottweiler, can change people's perception's, and make people trust through just one meeting.  We were then told to go and they would ring for us, to let us know when to come back, and see her after her operation.

The operation would only be a few hours. and they would finish the operation and X~ray her to make sure that her operation was correctly set. Then depending on her reaction to the operation, it would be decided whether she would be able to go home that night, or for us to collect her the next morning ??  So we were back once again to the waiting game, and it's one game I will never get used too.

                                       Total Love .....

So we tried to waste time, though I must admit I don't really remember what we did or where we went. I just remember the feeling of how long really is ....... a few hour's. I refused to go anywhere else further than 5 ~ 10 Minute's away from the Clinic Just in case they needed us quickly or that a few hour's were less than a FEW ?? Dai as usual poor thing was just waiting for me to crack, and trying to keep me calm, happy and busy all at once.

It seemed like Day's let alone a few hour's, but finally my phone goes and I get told that Fizz's leg had been operated on, and it's gone really well . The Nurse said that they were about to X~ray her,and  for us to come back to the Clinic in about an hour.  As they wanted to watch her for a bit and they needed time to develop the X~ray film just to make sure the operation was a success ? The nurse suggested that we get something to eat, as more than likely she would be coming home with us tonight.

Once again my Fizzly had been operated on and in an hour's time, I'd be with her again and the relief as always was over whelming. Dai persuaded me to do as the nurse suggested, and get something to eat. Though in his word's it would make the time pass quicker if we were fed !! But my main thought that he was probably hungry, but funnily enough my Fizz does love Pizza.  Especially as she had not had any food since the night before, but more than that I just wanted to take my Baby home !

Pizza in the car and Dai fed and watered !! we waste the hour and are once again pulling into the Clinic Car Park, and once again I'm totally drained. We go to see the specialist and he greet's us with a Smile ........ that's got to be a good sign ??  The specialist tells us the new's that the operation went perfectly and he couldn't be happier with the result and the X~ray film he'd seen.

He then said that her Bone Joint had started crumbling and that he'd hopefully removed all the Chip's, as they if left would have caused her pain and then maybe Arthritis. I asked about the Crutiate  Ligament, and whether it had fully snapped or not ? He then tells me that her Ligament was totally snapped and was basically doing nothing to aid her and was just literally floating around uselessly.

That Specialist then said that he felt it had snapped month's before, but it was actually her Muscle's in her leg's that had been holding her knee Joint in Place ?? So once again the Rottweiler build was a hindrance and a benefit as her weight made the ligament Snap, but her Muscle's had prevented more serious Damage !! He also said that she had some of the biggest muscle's on a Rottweiler that he'd ever seen, so I must have done something amazing with her Puppy Month's, as she was still only a Baby at 15 Month's old.

I then told him we give her Steroid's and we were entering her in the weight lifting class soon !! He then gives me the most SHOCKING new's so far ........ he tells me that Fizz had to walk on her leg from the moment she got home. Not only that but she would have to walk a good distance, or as far as she could manage starting the next day ! So this poor Fizzle's who had just gone through this major operation, and she wouldn't be able to just lie still and get better ?

The Specialist told us that she wouldn't be allowed to jump up which was one of her most favourite things to do ?? She would always be outside and then when she wanted in, she would stand up on her back leg's and look through the window as if to say " I'm Here "  So no more Peeping through window's but she would also not be allowed to stay still !!

One of the main factor's about Crutiate Ligament Surgery is the fact that it's not only a major Operation and this include's the top of the Bone being sawn off.  But you  then add Plates and Bolt's which hold the leg in place, but another factor is that the Dog's Muscle's then act as extra support. The thing about the Cruciate Ligament is that the Dog's Muscle waste's away, as they are not using it properly or Toe ~ Tipping, which Fizz had been doing already.

So this Muscle Wasting is something of a hindrance, when it come's to this form of Surgery, so this mean's my Fat Lump would not be able to just take it easy !!! But it also mean't that the quicker she started walking the quicker she would be better ................... with that thought in my head. I turn around and head out of the room. and back to collect my Fizzly .......... and take my baby home.

This was the operation that Fizz had done and more than that ............ she would have to walk on it in about 2 minute's time.
